Anamosa State Penitentiary, Anamosa, Iowa

The Anamosa State Penitentiary, located in Anamosa, Iowa, was established by the Iowa legislature in 1872. This classic stone fortress has approximately thirteen acres within its walls. The prison was built by inmates with Anamosa Limestone used as the main building material.
